Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
James 1:27
This past week we had the honor to speak with Denise Roberts, the director of the AIM House and orphanage in Kibera, Kenya. These will be two of the ministries that you will work closely with during your time in Kenya. As you begin to prepare yourself spiritually for this journey, please take the time to watch the following video and begin to pray for Denise, her staff and all of the children at the AIM House. This is an amazing group of people and you will benefit from taking the time to truly get to know them. Ask God to prepare your heart so that you will be able to be the hands and feet of Christ to these wonderful people in Kenya.
Denise has committed her life to the kids of Kibera. She says, "So many times people tell me that I must be strong, or a "special" person to live where I live and do what I do, but it's really more about stepping past lip service to "God is a big God" and actually walking that out in faith. A wise couple once told me that to make real change it has to be more uncomfortable to stay where you are than for you to make the change -- that's what living in Kibera with the kids is about. It became more uncomfortable for me to sit here in the US and say "it's sad about the orphans" than for me to pick up and leave. It looks a little insane at the time. But having one of these sweet kids throw their arms around me or come running in to tell me something that makes it all possible. From a worldly perspective I gave up a lot. From a Godly perspective I gained the world."
